TURTLES are laying below the king tide mark this year as they can't get up the erosion sand cliffs on the beach to a safe location above the high tide mark. If you spot a nesting turtle, turtle tracks or a possible nest, please report the sighting and location to NSW TurtleWatch immediately (24 hour hotline). Please do not touch - only National Parks and accredited Turtle Watch staff can disturb turtle nests. They will relocate them up the beach in a safer place. NSW TurtleWatch - Citizen Science Nesting Program hotline Ph: 0447 877 149 (24x7).
Please remember:

  • Turtles need to dig in the dark. Artificial light pollution disorients them from the glow of their ocean home.

  • If you encounter a nesting turtle, be quiet and stay well behind out of their peripheral vision - they are easily spooked and will abort nesting.

  • Loggerheads are critically endangered – the next step is extinction. So every nest, egg and hatchling is important to protect and nurture.
